Adult Learners Council North Dakota University System |
About the Adult Learners Council...
We are increasingly being challenged in meeting the education and training needs of an ever changing state, nation, and world. This challenge is particularly demanding in North Dakota with a decreasing number of traditional college age students (17 to 23) and an increasing number of adults who are ages 24 to 45. Even without a demographic shift, working adults will need continued education and training in order to remain competitive in the ever-changing job market. To address these issues, the North Dakota University System is forming the Adult Learners Council with membership from education, business, military and veterans, commerce, financial, and the private sector.
• To identify, develop, and market learning opportunities for adults.
• To partner with business, government, industry, education, and the military to serve the educational and training needs of adults.
• To insure that every North Dakotan has access to the quality life-long learning opportunities they need to be personally and professionally successful.The membership of the Adult Learners Council will include individuals representing education, business, veterans, government, military, tribal colleges, vocational rehabilitation, workforce training, and the private sector. The implementation of the Adult Learners Council supports the following NDUS Strategic Plan and Objectives.
• 1.1 Create pilot programs to deliver remedial instruction through the institutions working together; act on program needs identified through the recent assessments
• 1.2 Reduce barriers to attendance with special focus on underrepresented, older-than-average, and other non-traditional students;
• 1.3 Increase access to identified programs through online instruction/distance delivery; increase program flexibility serving adult students and supporting the increase of completion of degrees
• 1.4 Improve access to and awareness of support services to increase student retention and completionThe North Dakota Adult Learners Council will be committed to continuous improvement in service to adults through the development, implementation and sharing of adult education best practices. The North Dakota Adult Learners Council will be flexible, responsive, personal, affordable and accessible for all and valuing diversity and respecting the differences between groups and individuals.
